How BioPlastics began

In 1977, a group of four engineers from the Polyurethane Polymer division of BF Goodrich recognized the demand for a more flexible, high-performance horse racing harness product. They began to work with horse owners to create a line of synthetic belting for the tack and harness industry.
What began as a basement side job quickly led to the development of BioPlastics’ BioThane® webbing which has revolutionized the creation of equine belting products. Today, BioThane®-branded products dominate the equine market.

Expanding markets
Over the next 20 years, one of the original founders, Frank Boron, established sole ownership of BioPlastics. Clearly a leader in the Equine industry, BioPlastics began manufacturing coated webbing for additional markets, including Sporting Goods, Canine, Safety and Military.
In 1998, BioPlastics introduced BioSafe® to the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) market. As the only cleanable, reusable patient restraint, BioSafe® medical straps were welcomed into the medical market, with sales increasing steadily every year.
The company went global in 2000, expanding its loyal domestic distributor base by welcoming distributors from Western Europe, UK, Mexico and Asia.

Our future
BioPlastics is now in its second generation of family ownership, with Frank’s son Ethan as company president.  The company is located in a state-of-the-art 30,000-square-foot facility spanning three buildings for corporate offices, fabrication and extrusion.
With plans to continue its dedicated, worldwide focus on providing coated webbing and assemblies, particularly in the equine and medical markets, BioPlastics prides itself on understanding customers’ problems and creating a solution.
