New Medical Restraint Wipes Out Blood-Borne Pathogen Residue
Fast response, rapid vitals, swift transportation…. This environment requires pristinely clean equipment but is not conducive to quick and immediate cleanups when things like blood and other bodily fluids are flowing…
We’ve heard many stories from the medical response field and the bottom line is that all “messes” are cleaned up after the patient is stable and the right team of professionals is in place. The big question is how clean can you get the medical equipment when the stains have soaked into the materials?
Traditional nylon medical restraints can be difficult to clean, leaving many dangerous blood-borne pathogens behind and placing medical personnel, caregivers and patients at risk of contamination. We were asked to develop a new material which improves the cleanability of straps.
The new BIOSAFE® restraints feature a urethane coating that completely encapsulates the straps, providing unmatched protection and cleaning ability. Not only does their easily sanitized and durable nature make BIOSAFE restraints cost-effective, but they can be returned to service nine times faster than nylon straps.
We had a booth at the 2009 National Safety Council Congress and Expo in Orlando, Florida on October 26 – 28 where attendees saw the material used for BIOSAFE restraints and other innovative solutions.
